FIND THE TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS
On May 22, we celebrate Saint Rita in Fribourg. A Mass will be held in her honor in the St. Justin Chapel at 10:00. The ceremony will be punctuated by the symbolic ritual of the rose, the emblematic flower of St. Rita. The Mass will be followed by the playful lecture “Saint Rita the Incorruptible.” For the continuation of the festivities, you are invited to a meal (donation-based) organized from noon in the central garden. A bilingual evening vigil is also planned at 19:00 in the St. Justin Chapel. Saint Rita will also be celebrated in Lucerne on May 23. The Mass will take place at 11:00 in the Jesuit Chapel of Lucerne. It will be followed by a sharing moment around a convivial meal (donation-based). Finally, the Sion Mass in honor of St. Rita will be celebrated in the St. Justin Chapel in Sion on May 28 at 10:00, followed by a snack.

Saint Rita told differently and set to music by a string quartet |
DISCOVER A NEW EVENT
In this playful and educational mini-conferenceconcert, Pierre-Do Bourgknecht takes Saint Rita, a popular figure of last resort, as a starting point to explore a very contemporary idea: what endures when everything seems about to fall apart? The event touches on the fascinating tradition of incorruptible bodies, the strange notion of the “odor of sanctity,” and its complete inversion: Rita, a woman confronted with violence, grief, and exclusion, marked on her forehead by a foul-smelling wound, yet inwardly unalterable. An unexpected heroine of the Incorruptibles, without weapons but with disarming tenacity. With humor, cultural references, and a sense of nuance, Pierre-Do Bourgknecht—author, composer, performer, and music columnist for RTS—tells, plays, and connects. The words are then extended into music through an original creation for string quartet, where tensions, friction, and dissonances also strive to hold without breaking. A playful and sensitive proposal open to all— believers, the curious, and skeptics alike. |
