Just with Coëvence

Meet one of our scholarship recipients, learn about their background and their doctoral research during a convivial gathering.

The second edition of «Just with» took place on March 5, featuring Jean Coëvence Razanakolona, a St-Justin scholarship recipient. He presented his academic journey and doctoral thesis in theology, followed by an informal discussion with participants over tea and biscuits.

Born in the southwest of Madagascar, Coëvence knew at the age of 15 that he would become a priest. Ordained a deacon in 2018, he continued his studies in Rome before returning home to be ordained a priest less than a year later, on August 3, 2019. In 2021, he earned a Licentiate in Canon Law in Marriage and Family from the Jean Paul II Institute in Rome. Coëvence was then entrusted with a parish in Madagascar by his bishop before receiving a St-Justin scholarship to pursue a doctorate at the University of Fribourg from 2023 to 2027. His thesis, titled «The Phenomenon of the Unknown Father: Issues for Malagasy Families», explores single-parent families in Madagascar, focusing on the absence of fathers. His research analyzes family realities, fatherhood, and moral reflections from the Church, aiming for practical impact through the EVA project (Education for Life and Love).
